Climatology
Climate is one of the most important issues of our times. In coming years there will be an increase need for expertise in climatology, especially climate change and its effects on man and society. Earth science, with a specialisation towards climatology, is a programme for those who want to work with these issues. you will learn about the drivers of climate and its variability, about climate from the past to the future, and how climatic changes have influenced and will continue to affect people in different parts of the world. Since the programme is international, there will be opportunities to study abroad within the programme, for example in China, and you will certainly make many international contacts. You will learn how to use GIS (Geographic Information Systems), work with data management and anlysis and climate models.
Marine Geology
Marine Geology is one of the most interdisciplinary, exciting and diverse fields in the world of Geoscience. Just some of the things you learn about here are the birth and dynamic development and evolution of the world's oceans and their marine organisms; the history of the Earth’s climate, the Earth’s natural resources and their exploitation, marine environmental care and supervision and other environmental issues.
Geology
To understand our environment and the conditions for life on Earth, the knowledge about the processes forming the Earth is important. These processes are studied by the geologists.
Geology has, in Göteborg, three main disciplines; mineralogy - petrology (hard rock geology), quaternary geology, and geophysics. Geologists study the properties, constitution and history of rocks and soils.
Physical Geography
Physical Geographers study the Earth's environment by describing the formation of landforms, characteristics of climate and prerequisites for vegetation. To understand our environment, the processes that cause it to change are important. This is studied at different geographical levels, from local to global and at different time scales from seconds to millions of years. The interactions between environment and humans also have a great influence on the use and future security of our natural resources.
